A Painful Lesson

When I took this picture Blaise was happily playing. A split second later he picked up two handfulls of sand and threw them in his own face. He spent the next twenty minutes crying while I desperately rinsed the sand out of his eyes with bottled water.

Fortunately Blaise wasn't injured but the incident reinforced an important lesson I'd already learned and one that every parent or person that cares for a child should remember: kids can get into trouble when you're staring right at them.

Peppermint Pie

Let ice cream sit at room temp until soft enough to put it in a bowl and stir. As soon as it reaches a doughy consistency, pour the ice cream into the crust and smooth evenly. Place pie in freezer.

Before serving, crush up candy canes, generously sprinkle the top** and let pie sit at room temp until soft enough to slice with a warm wet knife.

*If an Oreo crust isn't available, substitute with a graham cracker crust.

**You can sprinkle candy cane on top of the pie before freezing it but I find the moisture in most freezers softens the candy into a crunchy goo. This can be tasty but for presentation's sake, wait until right before you serve.
